On January 21 Doug Hoehn, a snowboard instructor at Killington Mountain, Vermont, from Wyckoff, New Jersey, assisted in the rescue of 21 skiers and snowboarders who we out-of-bounds at the mountain, Conditions were very dangerous with -7 degrees and a wind chill which reached -30 with wind chill. It took 5 hours to find the lost skiers and boarders, who were all found successfully. Hoehn was able to track the lost people by following their tracks and the instinct that they would be going downhill. After most were found, it was learned that 5 additional people were still missing so Hoehn and others went back out to find them as well. Hoehn said any cold or or exhaustion was insignificant compared to the success of finding everyone successfully.
